Holy Schnikeys! This blog is officially one year old today. I am no longer a puppy. I am just another mutt. That was a very fast twelve months! A lot has happened in that time, but essentially nothing has happened in terms of healthcare reform, except political wrangling.
When I first started posting, I was a starry-eyed rookie who thought he could make a difference in the healthcare reform arena. I had great intentions and a lot of energy and ideas. Unfortunately my title is not Senator or Representative, so my potential impact has been severely limited. I now see just how ridiculous my first post was, and how our massive government and political system tends to have numbing effects. I guess that's why the best minds do not make their way into government.
One fundamental belief that I will always have is the fact that real reform requires contributions from all of us. We cannot change the system unless we change ourselves. Our healthcare problems are nothing more than a manifestation of deeper societal issues. Greed, selfishness and myopic thinking are not unique to healthcare. Sooner or later we need to see the big picture and the trendlines of our existence. The problems in the financial services and healthcare sectors should be gigantic red flags for all of us. These are not someone else's problems and it's not someone else's responsibility to fix them. These are OUR problems and as they say, "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem."
With that said, I am actively working with an insurance company to improve the physician/insurer relationship. I am also part of a very large effort to address the obesity epidemic in my community. Most importantly, I am taking much better care of myself. What are you doing to contribute to reform?

Congratulations. I see from the archives numbers that was 342 posts. Almost like vitamins: one a day.
I don't see a widget for a statistics tracker. If you don't have one you can get one for free, you know. Sitemeter, StatCheck and several others are out there for the taking. Click on anyone's widget and get a link to the origin. I don't know how they make money, but I think it's simply by increasing whatever counts as "market share" in a market of freebies. It probably has to do with advertising some way.
My poor old blog, still floating out there in Google Purgatory, remains like that becalmed ghost ship in the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, still getting about ninety hits a day. I can still check the traffic even though I can't access it or respond to (or permit) any new comments.
It's easy to add that feature to a Google blog. Just go to the Dashboard and look for the format tab. You might be pleased or bewildered about traffic when you find out. I don't recall any comments other than mine.
I use StatCounter, but I'm thinking about switching because some of their stats do not seem correct. I get a lot of hits that are listed as zero seconds, when I know from e-mails that I've gotten that the visitor spent more time on the site.
I consider 30 unique visitors to be a good day. I will never generate the traffic that I originally wanted because I don't spend enough time networking. I have had a few other commenters over the last year, but you are obviously the only consistent one and I thank you for that. I actually get more e-mails than I do comments. I'm not sure why that is.
Maybe I'll give Sitemeter a try. Thanks for the tip!
